defining the who and the how behind the handshake app content
understanding user groups
The assignment provided personas for two key user groups that the handshake app serves: freelancers, and business owners.
Based on these, I reviewed relevant public platforms and competitors as well as social media, forums, and blogs to further flesh out an understanding of the pain points the two groups of users face, and leverage this information in the way the app "speaks to" them.
language based on user groups
tailored terminology
Independent workers = freelancer, contractor / subcontractor, consultant
Work = scope, budget, proposal, deadline, deliverables
Money / payments = cash flow, income, revenue, expenses, billing
tailored taglines
Easy as a handshake / We handle billing so you can get to work
App-managed projects / A modern solution for modern business owners
Avoid the hassle / Handshake means peace of mind payments
defining how to speak to the user
voice / tone
Although the app is shared, the voice does not change. It is consistent across profiles, with changes in tone only at pivotal moments in the interaction. Although the freelancer is the primary user, the app functions as a mediator of a business arrangement, assuring both user groups the same helpful, friendly, and informative voice.
informative - provides a hassle-free experience that is instructive, but not overly complex
professional / smart - straightforward, and easy to use, using relevant terminology
trustworthy - transparent and reliable
welcoming / sympathetic - friendly and warm, while also being sympathetic to stresses inherent in business administration
